Ronson Vintage Cigarette Lighters, Portable Lighters and Table Lighters
Most famous for their "Press it's lit, Release it's out" marketing slogan for their Banjo range of lighter. Ronson have been manufacturing quality lighters since the early 20th century.
The quality and performance of Ronson lighters are by themselves well known. However, their appeal was broadened when they took the savvy step of incorporating their lighters into objects d'arte. The result was the creation of incredibly beautiful table lighters which are particularly sought after by vintage lighter collectors today. Those from the Art Deco period of the 1930s and 40s are especially prized by tobacciana enthusiasts.

With the introduction of the flint, Ronson started manufacturing lighters, both portable and table versions and the first models were known as striker lighters employing a straightforward technique of hitting a bit of flint with a metal rod covered with naphtha drenched asbestos. This metal rod, when hit against the flint would result in a spark which ignited the asbestos wick that was drenched with lighter fuel.
Louis Aronson subsequently had the concept of an easier technique for lighting tobacco and cigars and Ronson developed the first automated lighters referred to as the Banjo. In one action, the lighter would ignite and then snuff out the naked flame. This was advertised as the “press it lights, release its out” motion and grew to become just about the most copied behavior in a lighter.
Ronson integrated this particular lighting system in most of it's ornamental products transforming the table lamps, statues, and other household ornamental items in to table lighters.
Ronson developed the famous pencil lighter in the middle 30’s in several varieties and finishes. Many of the best lighters were created integrating a cigarette case and lighter collaboration in many diverse enameled art deco designs. Following the introduction of the butane lighter in the late fifties, Ronson introduced a new and improved system by using their well-known series of Ronson Varaflame Lighters.
